CONTEXT
About Dotted Labs
Dotted Labs was a startup based in Atlanta, Georgia. They developed industrial and enterprise IOT hardware and software in order to create an easily manageable industrial workplace. Their product offers bluetooth tags for tagging and track equipment, accompanied by a mobile and web experience. You can think of the product as “Tile Mate” but for industrial tools.
Challenge
Business owners with larger worksites have a difficult time tracking and managing their equipment. This can be both time and cost consuming especially for those who need to quickly locate expensive equipment which will be used on the day-to-day.
PROCESS
Defining the Visual Style Guide
We decided to use brighter colors in order to enhance readability and legibility.
The Logo
The design of the logo symbolizes being the central source of truth for live location tracking
FINAL DESIGN
Mobile Native (iOS)
Given that most users were tracking devices out in their respective industrial workplaces, mobile was the most common platform utilized.
Desktop Web
The desktop experience follows the same registration and login pattern as the mobile experience. Since there was a lot more real-estate to work with, the side-by-side layout of the map and list view makes the experience a lot more convenient.
REFLECTION AND LEARNINGS
Working in a fast-paced startup was an extremely rewarding experience for me. It taught me how to prioritize my work better so that I wasn’t blocking any of my engineers. I also worked closely with leadership to make sure that we were hitting our objectives and building features that would support the ideal state experience that we were targeting. Frequent check-ins and alignment within the team were crucial for the success of this deliverable.
